Mad about Mushrooms
Join us Saturday, August 1st 9-12 for a mushroom foray led by Andrew Minnick, of Authentic Primitive Living.
This foray will take a very slow paced roam through the forest, no more than a mile of total hiking, stopping frequently to address our findings. Our main quarry will be the Golden Chanterelles, but there will be dozens of interesting species to see and learn about! Guides will be available after the foray to chat about your finds. It’s sure to be a fun(gus) day!
Chanterelles are probably the most well known wild mushrooms. They’re sought after by chefs and foodies due to their delicate flavor, which some describe as “mildly peppery.” Chanterelles bake well and retain their flavor after long cooking. Eggs, chicken, pork, and veal harmonize beautifully with them. Andrew enjoys a simple approach, he likes to fry his up in butter with a touch of olive or sunflower oil adding a dash of salt when they’re starting to get crispy on the edges.
**Closed toe shoes and appropriate clothing are recommended for the foray. Guests are encouraged to bring a basket (paper bags will be available), notebook, and a small pocket knife or scissors.
